Original Paintings

By admin, August 31, 2010 3:56 am

The term original paintings refers to any painting created by an artist in any medium, oil, acrylic, tempura, watercolor, in its original form. The term “original painting” should also imply that the painting is not a direct copy of any other original painting.

Many people consider the use of paintings as an important element in home decor, and buy original paintings of various quality to satisfy their aesthetic sense. Original paintings can vary in value from the great masters….valued in millions of dollars…to a few dollars for original paintings done by local or little known artists. Some inexpensive original paintings are very attractive and well done. The point in the purchase of original paintings, as with any other art form, is to please the buyer. What one person likes in an original painting may be totally unappealing to another.

Popular types of original paintings include landscapes and seascapes. Some are also very fond of floral paintings and still life and make purchases of this type of original painting for their homes. Totally abstract original paintings in attractive colors are often chosen by institutions or professionals to decorate waiting rooms where they wish to create a mood of peacefulness.

Some people choose to support local artists and purchase their original paintings at local art exhibitions or sometimes at fairs or festivals. Such original paintings may range from landscapes to paintings of people or city streets or sometimes rural scenes which include animals. There is a tremendous variety of styles and subjects represented in original paintings at every level of expertise. In local art exhibits there are often a number of original paintings that are distinguished both by creativity and artistic capability.

If one is particularly fond of the work of a particular fine artist, but cannot afford the price of an original painting (perhaps thousands of dollars) often there are prints available which faithfully reproduce the original and can be a somewhat satisfactory substitute for the original painting. Many feel, however, that there is no substitute for an original painting and will simply buy the best they can find in a price range which suits their budget.

Regardless of what one can afford to purchase, museums and art galleries afford anyone the opportunity to view and enjoy the world’s great original paintings, as well as the original paintings of local and upcoming artists. Viewing fine original paintings offers a feast for the eyes and a lift to the spirit.

Photography

Photography is the process of creating an image by capturing light on light sensitive, chemically treated surfaces or an electronic sensor. The word photography comes from two old Greek words and literally means to draw with light. There were cameras way before there was any way to make a permanent photograph. The first real permanent photo was made in 1826. Since that time, photography has gone through many changes People have always been searching for ways to make photography faster and easier. The first photo took six hours to expose. But now with digital technology, photography is instantaneous.

Early photography was done on plates of metal or glass. These were then developed, using chemicals and prints were made. Early photography equipment was big and heavy and bulky and made photography a difficult thing to pursue. Early photography was done in black and white or what is called sepia tone. Black and white photography was popular even after the advent of color photography. People thought that black and white looked more like real photography. Once film was invented for photography, more amateurs began to get involved in photography and its popularity grew.

But even with film, photography was still difficult and you need to get the film developed and this took time. But now with digital photography, there is no need for film or developing and even more people can enjoy the photography hobby and they don’t have to wait for their pictures to be developed or mess around with dangerous chemicals, trying to develop the film themselves.

Digital photography came about as a response by newspapers to television news. Newspapers needed a way to get pictures to the public faster than the traditional photography way of having a photographer taking a picture and then having to send it to a lab for developing and printing and then back to the newspaper to be reproduced in the paper. Digital photography was the answer. Digital photography was once available only for commercial, professional use, but is now widely available and quite affordable.

The science of photography has come a long way, but the art of photography remains pretty much the same. Creating images by drawing with light. Of course, with digital photography, the whole process is so much easier and photography is much more accessible to the average person. Even small children are now pursuing photography as a hobby. It seems that almost everybody has a digital camera now. People are so much more in control of their photography now and able to see the results of their photography right away and then manipulate their photos themselves right on their own computers.

Good portrait photography is an art and portrait photography is a science. In portrait photography, you need to understand the fine art of capturing the human image and all the subtleties involved. And in portrait photography, you need to have the technical expertise required to get the lighting just right and set the camera controls just right to get the proper image. Of course there has been a lot of bad portrait photography done in supermarkets and schools which disregarded all of these axioms of good portrait photography and people have willingly shelled out good money for this bad portrait photography so who knows what is right and what is wrong?

Even in this age of digital photography, some people still like to go to a photography studio to have portrait photography done. In some cultures, studio portrait photography is considered a fun way to spend your time. Many people will, every time they go to a certain town, stop in at a special photography studio to have some portrait photography done. They think it is fun and exciting to go into the photography studio for portrait photography. They enjoy picking the special scenic or colorful backgrounds for their portrait photography. They just love posing for portrait photography and then they end up with portrait photography that they can hang on their wall. This type of portrait photography isn’t always of the highest quality, but some people really find this type of portrait photography very pleasing.
